Congratulations to both Deb Bauer and Brad Bauer our winners!!!!
What a great Event and a great day. I would like to thank both Teresa Hanson our Toko Rep and Claus Pittman our Swix Rep. Both were a great help at getting everyone’s kick wax dialed in. Each year we provide a waxing tent to help those who are worried about nailing the perfect kick wax.
The sun came out for all 244 athletes. The start was beautiful, but as we started skiing around Shadow Mountain, the fog moved in. I was expecting it to be a little sunnier, but when you get to the top of the Shadow Mountain, it’s always really sunny from all the smiles we get from our great volunteers. I also know I am half-way and it’s mostly downhill from here to the finish.
After we came down Shadow Mountain and wound our way through Raven Glide and Hemlock, there were volunteers cheering us on while making sure we were going the right way. Coming off Hemlock, you are about to make your last big climb up Alpine. One of my favorite volunteers, Robin Redmond, was there dressed head to toe in her wool outfit, skirt and all, to cheer us on. I always know I am getting close to finishing when I see her. After the Alpine climb (it’s always a challenge at this point in the race) we go screaming down the other side, all the while trying to hold it together for that pesky sharp left at the bottom. Next we battle up Brian’s Hill, followed by some hard poling through the training area and then on to the finish shoot.
This year we had four employees racing. All four made the Podium. Two were first in their age group. Thanks also go to Brian Southworth and Eric Ginn for helping John and me with the waxing duties. We also couldn’t have done it without our other two employees, Holly and Jim. They were both left to hold down the fort back at the shop. Without them, I would not be able to race every year.
There were almost 40 kids under the age of 10. It was so fun to see all the energy and enthusiasm they bring to this event.
I can’t wait until next year!!!!
