  • October 2020

For those of you who really know me, you know writing is not my thing.  As you can see that last blog post was a while ago.  So here we go:
It is October 2020.  The year that is like no other.  For us at Fitness Fanatics, we are trying to keep it as much fun and exciting as we can.  We will be having our annual Cross-Country Ski Sale and Swap on Nov. 7th and 8th.  We will have to make some changes, but the snow must go on!

  • The off Season

What is the off season? What does this mean for a Triathlete?
For Triathletes, this is a hard question to answer.   Some of you will not take any time off at all, while others take advantage of sitting on the coach watching football and catching up on the new flavors of brews that are out for the Holidays.
What it really means when we say its time for the off season, is that workouts are  less structured to give the mind and body a break from rigorous schedules and training.  This does not mean you should sit on the coach.  ...

  • Time to switch seasons

The end of the Nordic ski season is here and it is time to get your skis ready for summer.
Make sure to put a layer of wax on them to protect them for the summer.
If you have waxable classic, you should clean off the kick zone and then put a glide wax on the whole ski.
Skate skis:  glide wax on the whole ski
Waxless ski glide on glide zone and paste wax on scales.
Skin skis:  glide wax on glide zone , nothing on the skin.
IF you don’t have time to do your own, bring ...

  • top 10 reasons for Nordic skiing

Top 10 reseasons to Nordic Ski.   This was put out by Health Fitness Reveloution.
WE all know it, but it is fun to see it in print.
You get a full-body workout. Nordic skiing combines both a lower body and upper body workout, while simultaneously working both the “pulling” and “pushing” muscles of each region. The workout comes in the fact that you use your own locomotion to move through the terrain. Even muscles that don’t seem to be in use are actively involved to balance and coordinate the entire body.
Burns lots of calories. Nordic skiing burns more calories ...

  • Nordic Ski Prep

    Ski Prep
1st Find your skis.  Are they in the garage?  Are they in the basement?   Are they still in the rocket box on top of the car?
    2.  Dust them off.  Did you put summer wax on them to protect them?  Do you still have Klister from Langlauf?  If you have old wax, clean it off.  If you hot waxed them,  great job, now do a hot wax clean.
    3.  Do the Hot wax clean if you haven’t done it yet.
    4. Brush them good.  Put a new layer of base prep on.( this is in the glide ...

  • Nordic Ski Tip for Oct.

Preparing your Nordic skis for the upcoming season:
If you put your summer wax on your skis, your skis are in great shape.  Now is the time to scrape it off, and do a hot wax clean.  Then give them a good bushing with a copper or brass brush.  This will help get that last bit of the old wax off.
Then use a base prep wax and soak in a good thick coat.  Let it cool 15 minutes before scraping and brush.
Next use a colder temperature wax and do the same thing.   Then go back to a ...

  • Ironman 2014 Sherpa check list.

You are the one who has been patiently allowing your Ironman athlete to train. You have been keeping the family together and keeping the house clean.   You are the one who will get up early to watch your athlete, cheer them on all day and then pick up the pieces at the end of the day.  You are the backbone of Ironman.  Without your love and support, your athlete may not make it to the start line.  So for you we say THANK YOU!!!
